Special balancing systems for shaft-elastic rotors
The result of 70 years of market leadership Schenck is the world's leading supplier of high-speed special balancing systems for balancing large power plant turbines and generators, high-speed compressors, industrial steam and gas turbines and the complex testing of engine components in the airline industry. In a constant exchange of experience with our customers, we are continuously developing our DH series.

Additional Stiffness Our DH series bearing pedestals are equipped with isotropic supported bearings, providing equal stiffness in all bearing plane radial directions. They are suitable for use at extremely high balancing and test speeds. For this purpose, the stiffness of the bearing supports can be changed through remote-control. Avoiding passing through rotor resonances, and ensuring high stability especially during over speed tests.

Special features

Balancing and overspeed testing under vacuum conditions
Due to the high ventilation losses of bladed rotors at high speeds and the associated power and heat problems, high-speed balancing and overspeed testing takes place under vacuum with a residual pressure below 2 mbar.Burst proof containment
In order to protect the environment from the dangers of a completely or partial rotor burst, we provide different designs of DH balancing facilities:For rotor weights of up to approx. 12,5 t and 2 m in diameter, a movable vacuum chamber with integrated burst protection is recommended.
For medium and large size balancing facilities the construction of an explosion-safe tunnel or bunker is the most favorable solution.
Drive system
Schenck utilizes the most efficient and economic electrical drive system of today. This includes the capability of regenerating back into the electrical grid during deceleration. This technical solution helps our customers to protect the environment. The second important component of our drive system is the Schenck intermediate shaft which links the mechanical connection between atmospheric site of the drive and vacuum inside the tunnel where the bearing pedestals with customer rotor are located.
Oil supply and monitoring
Oil supply systems for the rotor bearings, the turbo gearbox, and the intermediate shaft are required to proper operate a high speed balancing facility. These systems supply cooling and lubrication oil for the above-mentioned components. A sophisticated emergency system provides these features even in case of loss of electrical power during operation.
All facility components can be controlled using the Schenck Process Visualization System including monitoring and data acquisition.
CABflex3
Our expert system for the efficient balancing of shaft-elastic rotors

Maximum performance for demanding requirements
CABflex3 is the latest generation of our expert system for high-speed balancing of shaft-elastic rotors such as rollers, compressors, generators, or turbines. It enables highly accurate, fast and efficient balancing of elastic rotors. The measured values are recorded and stored by CABflex as raw data to allow the greatest possible flexibility in data analysis. A wide variety of transducer types can be used. The number of channels is freely configurable.
Numerous options for precise balancing and diagnostics
CABflex3 offers you much more than just the calculation of balancing weights using the influence coefficient method: Bode and Nyquist diagrams, calculation of modal residual unbalance, runout profile, FFT analysis package, bending line, balancing optimization, prognosis, and much more. Perform analyses anywhere thanks to network capability and remote diagnosis via the Internet – ideal for flexible application scenarios and efficient maintenance.
Additional sensors for rotor inspection
In addition to the moving coil pick-ups installed in the DH series bearing pedestals for unbalance measurement, non-contacting sensors can be used to measure shaft vibration. As a result, the behavior of the rotor in the sleeve bearings can be examined. In particular, rotor deflections at certain locations can be determined, for example on overhanging shafts or in the rotor center.
