20 Years RBRQ: The Driveshaft Balancing Machine from Schenck – More Productivity, Flexibility & Safety

Stability and Innovation for Maximum Productivity in Driveshaft Manufacturing
Driveshafts are used in modern vehicles and industrial applications in a wide range of lengths, weights, and designs. This mechanical diversity places the highest demands on precision, flexibility, and efficiency in production. With the RBRQ series, Schenck offers the leading driveshaft balancing machine – a global innovation benchmark for the past 20 years.

Balancing Machines for Driveshafts: Master Every Type
Driveshafts are required in an enormous variety of lengths, weights, and designs. For manufacturers, this means one thing: maximum flexibility without the need for dozens of different machines. The RBRQ series balancing machine for driveshafts is designed to handle exactly type mix – from large truck components to compact passenger car shafts – with maximum throughput and minimal setup effort.

  • High flexibility: From very small to very large – we build our RBRQ machines for shafts up to 5 meters in length and up to 250 kg in weight.
  • Balancing time per shaft: approx. 1.5 minutes – industry-leading.
  • Fast changeovers: Type changes in just a few minutes thanks to innovative and robust setup concepts. This means you can keep producing driveshafts instead of losing valuable time during changeovers.

Precision and Convenience: Balancing for Optimal NVH and Energy Efficiency
Perfect balancing is essential for meeting the highest quality standards. In modern automotive engineering, low vibration levels – referred to as NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) – and smooth running are critical for driving comfort and customer satisfaction. Especially in the premium segment, imbalance, cabin drone or disturbing vibrations are simply unacceptable.
Thanks to seamless IT integration, experience-based automation, and decades of expertise, the RBRQ consistently delivers maximum precision. Many of our customers use the machine to build components that are lighter and closer to operating limits without increasing the tube diameter – an valuable contribution to reducing weight and energy consumption.
As a result, driveshaft balancing becomes one of the most important quality factors in your production process and is crucial for both end-product durability and driving comfort.

Flexibility for All Designs – Single-, Two-, and Three-Piece Driveshafts
The variety of driveshaft designs creates major challenges in manufacturing. The RBRQ series is specifically designed to handle them all:

  • Single-piece driveshafts: The most common version, mainly used in pick-ups, SUVs, and light commercial vehicles (around 60–70% share).

  • Two-piece driveshafts: Used in longer vehicles, offering greater protection against resonance without increasing tube diameter.

  • Three-piece driveshafts: Designed for special requirements involving extra-long shafts and certain commercial or special-purpose vehicles.

The RBRQ is built to balance all these types with minimal effort and maximum precision. The application range extends from a few kilograms up to heavy-duty 250 kg truck shafts – all in record time.

Comfort and Efficiency: Why Driveshaft Balancing Matters
Why is balancing driveshafts so important?

  • Reduces vibrations and noise (NVH): For maximum driving comfort, long-lasting components, and premium quality.

  • Optimizes weight and tube diameter: For lower energy consumption and expanded operating ranges.

  • Ensures precision and stability: Schenck RoTec stands for reproducible quality and reliably low residual imbalance.

IT-Integration and Traceability in Driveshaft Production
The RBRQ driveshaft balancing machine offers advanced IT integration and traceability solutions for modern production environments:

  • Barcode and scanner systems: Reliable identification of production parts using DMC and RFID labels.

  • Digital data management: Communication with host systems and customer-specific production systems.

  • Flexible series production: Whether batch production or targeted pairing, the RBRQ supports both scenarios.

Safety Without Compromise – Schenck Sets the Standard
As rotational speed and mass increase, the risk in the balancing process rises exponentially. That is why Schenck RoTec designed the RBRQ with a fully enclosed protective housing.

  • Fully enclosed protective housing: Designed for the safe containment of any projectiles that may be released during the balancing process.

  • Horizontal telescopic safety doors: Open the full working area of up to three meters in less than 2.5 seconds – without artificially increasing the machine length.

  • Smart door design: The inner door panels open twice as fast as the outer ones, inspired by the elevator door principle.

  • Above industry standard: This safety concept has set the benchmark since 2006, making the RBRQ the standard for safety and operator convenience.

Technical Variants and Applications
The RBRQ series covers a broad range of applications in driveshaft manufacturing:

  • RBRQ 200X: Optimized for passenger car driveshafts from 4–40 kg.

  • RBRQ 200L: Designed for truck driveshafts up to 250 kg.

  • Length variants: 3.0 m, 4.0 m, and 5.0 m. The 5-meter version is unique in the market. Even particularly heavy shafts can be balanced safely

Proven Reliability and Decades of Experience
For 20 years, Schenck sets the standard in the series production of driveshafts with this machine:

  • More than 100 RBRQ machines installed worldwide

  • Continuously optimized technology

  • Expert know-how and personal consultation

FAQ – RBRQ Balancing Machine for Driveshafts

The RBRQ balances single-, two-, and three-piece driveshafts in lengths up to 5 meters and weights  up to 250 kg, covering both passenger car and truck applications.

Safety is ensured through a closed, engineered protective enclosure and fast telescopic doors, supported by machine-integrated safety catches.

Balancing reduces NVH levels such as vibration and in-cabin drone noise, especially at high speeds. This is essential for premium comfort and long component life.

Driveshafts are typically used in rear-wheel-drive vehicles, all-wheel-drive vehicles, and hybrid vehicles.

Yes. Depending on gear ratio and vehicle speed, a driveshaft can reach speeds of up to 7,000 rpm, which places very high demands on balancing precision.

The shaft is connected directly to the body through bearings, often beneath the rear seat. Lightweight construction and reduced damping make NVH requirements even more demanding.

Typical weights are 22–25 kg. The RBRQ covers 4–40 kg for passenger car applications, while the RBRQ 200L handles truck driveshafts up to 250 kg.

Installation space is limited, and greater mass increases energy consumption. Instead, segmentation is used to avoid resonance and optimize weight.
