Life in Darmstadt

Situated in the extensive Rhine-Main industrial centre, Darmstadt is located approximately 30 kilometres to the South of Frankfurt , in the vicinity of the Odenwald range of hills. Darmstadt , "City of Science" is renowned for its Technical University and several technical colleges, all of which enjoy an outstanding reputation.

At the same time, the city is headquarters to a number of large globally operating companies – from traditional industries such as mechanical engineering, the chemical industry or cosmetics, to companies from the New Economy . In addition the city also provides great recreational and entertainment opportunities.

As a "City of Culture" Darmstadt offers numerous high-powered theatres, museums and galleries, along with entertainment in cinemas, cosy pubs and good shopping facilities.

The nearby Odenwald hills offer ample opportunities for recreation. Frankfurt airport is within easy reach for private or business travel.

A number of interesting destinations are also within easy driving distance:
The Bergstraße district, Heidelberg, Mainz or Wiesbaden are all less than one hour away by car, as are the vine growing areas of Rheinhessen and Palatinate.
